The money side of photography
Every way getting paid goes sideways, handled.
Chasing the retainer
The date isn't booked until the retainer's in, and you're the one asking twice.
Send a retainer invoice in a minute. Your client gets one link with the amount, your Venmo, Zelle and card link, and the invoice number to put in the memo. Reminders go out before and after it's due.
Chasing the balance
The wedding was great. The final payment is three weeks late.
The balance invoice goes out when you choose: before the session, or before gallery delivery. The Photography stages (Booked → Pre-session consult → Session → Culling & editing → Gallery delivered → Album) keep every client on one screen.
“I sent it on Venmo”
A screenshot in your DMs isn't money in your account.
Clients tap “I've paid” and say how: Venmo, Zelle, card. You check it arrived and confirm; the receipt goes out and the reminders stop. Nothing is marked paid until you say so.
Ghosted
Silence after the retainer, or after the shoot.
You see when a client opens the invoice. Polite reminders keep going on schedule (by email, and a message ready for you to text), and stop the moment it's paid.
Contracts and retainer terms
“Is the retainer refundable?” is a conversation you want settled up front.
Put your retainer terms on the invoice. Clients tick to accept them on the pay page, and you get a timestamped record. Start from our template (a starting point, not legal advice).
Gallery before final payment?
Delivering the gallery and hoping the balance follows.
Your balance invoice can be due before gallery delivery, and the dashboard shows who still owes what before you hit send on the gallery.
What your client sees
One page to pay you. One tap to tell you.
Your client's pay page: the amount, “Pay with…”, and “I've paid”.
Your phone: check it arrived, confirm, receipt sent.
Your money, straight to you
We never hold your payments.
Clients pay you directly through your own Venmo, Zelle, Cash App or your Stripe, Square or PayPal link. Lunas isn't in the middle, so there's no processing fee from us and no payout to wait for. Card links charge their own standard fees; Zelle is free for most bank customers.
Venmo and Cash App have rules for business payments; use a business profile if you get paid for your work.
