Getting paid
How do my clients pay?
Each invoice has a pay page with the exact amount and your ways to pay: your Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, a Stripe, Square or PayPal payment link, or a check. Venmo and Cash App open with the amount filled in; the invoice number is shown as the memo. Then they tap “I've paid”.
Does my money go through you?
No. Your money goes straight to you: clients pay your own Venmo, Zelle, Cash App or card link. We never hold, touch or delay it, and we take no cut.
Do you charge card or payment fees?
Not from us. Lunas is one flat monthly price. If a client pays through your own card link (Stripe, Square, PayPal), that service charges its usual fee on your account, as it would anyway. Zelle is free for most bank customers.
How do I know a client really paid?
When they tap “I've paid” you get a notification. Check it arrived in your Venmo, bank or Stripe, then confirm: the amount, method and date are already filled in from what they told you. The receipt goes out and the reminders stop. A screenshot alone never marks anything paid.
Can I take a retainer and then a balance?
Yes, that's the core of it. Photographers usually take a 30% retainer to book the date (25% and 50% are one click away), then the balance before the session or before gallery delivery. Each client has one record from quote to paid in full.
Compared with other tools
How is this different from HoneyBook or Dubsado?
HoneyBook and Dubsado are full client-management suites: proposals, contracts, questionnaires, scheduling and payments. Lunas does one job: getting you paid, on time, without the chasing. It's simpler, it's one flat price with no processing fees from us, and clients pay you through the apps they already use. If you need a full CRM, they're good tools; if you mostly need retainers and balances paid, Lunas is lighter.
Can I keep using my contract tool?
Yes. Keep your contracts where they are. Put your retainer terms on the invoice and clients tick to accept them on the pay page, with a timestamp. That's not a replacement for a signed contract.
Why not just send a Venmo request?
You can, and many photographers do. Lunas adds what a Venmo request doesn't: a proper invoice with your details and sales tax, the retainer and balance in one record, reminders that stop when paid, receipts, and a list of who still owes what.
Your data
Where is my data stored?
Lunas is run by a small team in Singapore, and your account data is stored in Singapore. All traffic is encrypted (HTTPS), and each business's records are kept separate from every other business's by the database itself, not just by the app. You can export everything, any time.
Do you text my clients?
No. We don't send text messages. The “Text” button opens your own phone's Messages app with the message typed in; you decide whether to send it. Invoices, reminders and receipts go by email.
Do you handle sales tax?
If you charge sales tax, set your rate (for example 8.875% in New York City) and it's added to your invoices as its own line. Whether your work is taxable depends on your state, so check with your accountant; we don't file anything for you.
Pricing and setup
How much is it?
US$29 a month for founding members, locked in for as long as you stay subscribed, or US$290 a year. After the founding offer closes it's US$39 a month. Free for 30 days, no card needed.
How long does setup take?
About ten minutes: your business details, sales tax if you charge it, and your ways to get paid. You can import your current clients and jobs from Excel or Google Sheets.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Lunas works in your phone's browser and can be added to your home screen like an app, with notifications when clients open an invoice or say they've paid.
